Safety Day 2017: In Six Years Accidents Has Been Reduced by 80%

PSA Voltri-Pra has been carrying out innovative programmes for the improvement of Safety Standards with the active participation of its staff since 2010, and they continue to obtain extremely positive results.

The accidents registered in 2016 in the principle Italian Container Terminal showed a reduction of 15 percentage points. In the past six years the overall reduction of accidents has been greater than 80%.

These results, and the initiatives organised for 2017, were detailed during the customary Safety Day, which took place this year at the “Cargo Theatre” in Voltri, Genova. The event boasted the presence of more than 150 people, representative of the entire maritime port cluster.

The slogan chosen for this year’s Safety Day – that the PSA Group has promoted on an international scale since 2013 – was ‘Everyone has to make the difference’, with examples and actions to carry out for the safety of the individual and their coworkers.

And it was precisely this theme of how to stimulate a conscious approach in the workplace that was developed by the Managing Director Gilberto Danesi during the course of a video interview made for the occasion by the Head of Personnel Alberto Casali.

The words of Mr. Danesi, in particular, highlighted to those present the importance of feeling part of a community where no injury is acceptable. While there was obvious satisfaction expressed for the results obtained, maximum vigilance was solicited from all the companies of the port as well as the contractors for the necessity of focusing on the Safety Standards set out by PSA Voltri-Pra together.

The event concluded with a talk by Davide Scotti, and the subsequent debate that arose was moderated by Safety Manager Stefano Mordeglia. Davide Scotti is the co-author of the best seller “The Book that Saves your Life” as well as the General Secretary of the Leadership in Health and Safety Foundation. The LHS foundation is the organiser of the road show ‘Italia Loves Sicurezza’, which PSA has taken part in since 2015.
