The ceremony for the inauguration of the second rail track connecting the Terminal with the RFI Genova Pra’ Mare seaport took place on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the PSA Genova Pra’ terminal.

The inauguration marked the first of the many interventions expected for the rail plan at the port of Genoa, defined by AdSP and RFI, which will develop the rail infrastructure of the Pra’ and Sampierdarena basins.

The Governor of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, the President of the Port System Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, Paolo Emilio Signorini, the Mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, the President of the VII Ponente Municipality, Claudio Chiarotti and the Investments Director of RFI, Vincenzo Macello, along with the CEO of PSA Italia, Giuseppe Danesi, participated in the ceremony.

All the stakeholders of the port community, PSA management and representatives for terminal workers were also present.

The infrastructure was created by Rete ferroviaria Italiana and Italferr – a company in the FS Italiane Group – in coordination with the contracting companies and in full collaboration with the Port Authority, PSA and all the rail operators with an economic investment of around 30 million euros.

The PSA Group, which has always been attentive towards environmental issues and the optimization of processes, believes that the growth of the operational rail cycle is an essential instrument for the contining development of their own levels of service as well as for the development of national logistics.

The double connection of the PSA terminal and the new configuration of the stopover will double the handling capacity, guaranteeing an increase in the overall capacity of the stopover and thus supporting the growing demand of current and future traffic.

The intervention is more synergistic compared to the investments that have already been completed at PSA Genova Pra’ as well as to those that will be done the near future, which include the purchase and installation of two new iron cranes for the rail park.

The rail terminal PSA Genova Pra’, which is directly connected to the storage area and the quay of the container terminal, has a current capacity of 120 trains a week and is connected to all the main national destinations in the North East (Padua, Verona, Reggio Emilia and Rubiera) and North West (Rivalta Scrivia and Milan), as well as with Switzerland and Central Europe (Basel) through a service run directly by PSA Genova Pra’.
