The PSA SECH Border Control Post in the Port of Genova
On the 17th July 2020, a Border Control Post (BCP), available for use by all those operating within the port of Genova, was inaugurated at the PSA SECH terminal.
BCPs are designated peripheral offices of the Ministry of Health, authorised by the European Commission, for veterinary checks on animal products due for human and non-human consumption, imported into the EU markets from third countries. The BCP is therefore fundamental in protecting the interests of the operators within the supply chain as well as the consumers’.
The new PSA SECH building covers an area of 1000 m2 and houses six temperature-controlled storage facilities, laboratories, offices and service areas. The BCP employs health and safety officers, technical assistants and vets. The structure has the capacity to check up to 50 containers per day.
During 2021 (data to the 30th November), the BCP carried out circa 1000 inspections of various types: 132 customs chemical, 5 veterinary chemical, 2 sanitary chemical, 2 CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species – of Wild Fauna and Flora), 132 phytopathological, 22 sanitary and 723 veterinary ones.
The building is autonomous in terms of illumination and sanitary water supply thanks to the photo-voltaic panels installed on the roof.
