The first LNG ship in Italy docks at PSA Genova Pra’
Recently the CMA CGM Iguacu berthed at our terminal, the first container ship run on liquified natural gas (LNG) to call at an Italian port.
The use of LNG is a step towards greater environmental sustainability for maritime traffic, as in addition to eliminating emissions of sulphur oxides and particulates, it considerably reduces both emissions of nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide, compared with navigation using traditional liquid fossil fuels.
The container ship CMA CGM Iguacu is a vessel of the latest generation, it has a tonnage of over 150 thousand tonnes (14.812 TEU) and is over 50 metres wide. It has a “Duel Fuel” two-stroke engine, which means it can be fuelled with either LNG or liquid biofuels.
