From the 13th to 18th September, PSA Genova Pra’ and PSA SECH will participate in the “PSA Go Green Week”, an initiative promoting environmental sustainability, involving all business units of the EMA region. In particular, during the week there will be three days dedicated to trees, food and the fight against plastic in the sea which, through concrete actions, aim to promote greater attention to environmentally-friendly issues.

In fact, the first step towards a more ecological work environment is attention to “green” issues and becoming aware of the impact generated on the world we live in by our individual environmental footprint, that is, the footprint each of us leaves on the planet in terms of the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions produced by our own dietary habits, our pace of work, and the daily means of transport used.

The first day of the “Go Green” week will be entirely dedicated to “Tree Day”, during which PSA Genova Pra’ and PSA SECH will undertake the planting of flowers in two specific areas: on the first floor of the new building housing the changing-rooms for PSA Genova Pra’ and in the area in front of the building housing the PSA SECH operational centre. The idea is to create green spaces that will compensate the CO2 emissions and at the same time be a place of awareness and encounter for the employees. Moreover, both organisations will make a contribution to Treedom for the planting of trees in those areas of the world that have suffered widespread exploitation of their forests.

The second day will be “Veggie Day”. For the occasion the employees of the two units will be able to taste two free vegetarian menus. A healthy balanced diet, respectful of the environment and free from any exploitation is what we all need. The planet included. PSA Genova Pra’ and PSA SECH, will strive to ensure that their employees can reflect on the environmental benefits deriving from the decrease in the amount of meat eaten in their daily meals.

The third day will be “Clean Up Day”: clearing the sea of plastic. A Seabin will be installed at PSA Genova Pra’. This is a floating device that sucks in and collects rubbish from the sea. Unfortunately, our oceans and seas are extremely polluted by plastic, which is even present in the remotest parts of the planet, such as the Arctic. Every year, between 4.8 and 12.7 million tons of plastic ends up in the oceans, putting marine life at risk and causing damage to the economy.

During the week there will also be space for the in-house competition “Little Green Steps”, which aims to encourage the PSA personnel to undertake eco-actions, or “green steps”. These actions, from switching-off electric appliances when not in use to utilizing reusable shopping bags, will be inserted into a virtual record card, to be ticked off each time they are undertaken. Additionally, the competition aims to encourage employees to propose other “green steps” besides those on the virtual record card, by putting innovative and environmentally friendly ideas on a shared in-house platform. The three ideas that receive the most votes, in addition to receiving a prize, will be inserted on the virtual card of the next “Go Green” event.
