PSA Italy: Order for 3 New E-RTGs at Vecon-PSA Venice Terminal
PSA Italy has confirmed the purchase of three new E-RTGs (Electric Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes), fully electric and zero-emission yard cranes, with a total investment of €8.5 million, reinforcing its commitment to a more sustainable and competitive future in the port industry. These cranes, designed to enhance operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact, will be operational at the Vecon – PSA Venice terminal by 2026, following the production and delivery process.
The acquisition of the three E-RTGs marks the culmination of the first phase of strategic investments in equipment and infrastructure. In 2024, Vecon-PSA Venice has already commissioned four new Reach Stackers, essential for container handling operations, with two more expected in 2025. Significant upgrades, including yard resurfacing and the creation of new rubber-tyred gantry paths, have also been completed to improve internal traffic flow and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the terminal has enhanced its refrigerated cargo storage capacity by installing new Reefer Racks, adding 96 reefer plugs to meet the growing market demand for temperature-controlled goods. Special attention has also been given to workers' well-being, with the construction of modern and comfortable locker rooms and a new rest area for external operators.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen port infrastructure and technology, aligned with environmental sustainability and service improvement goals.
“We are proud to announce this new milestone in our investment plan. This first phase, planned in 2024, aligns with our €80 million commitment announced in June 2023 during the renewal of our terminal concession here in Marghera – said Daniele Marchiori, General Manager of PSA Venice-Vecon – The introduction of three new E-RTGs represents not only a significant technological leap that will further enhance our service levels but also a clear signal of our dedication to sustainability and innovation, key factors for maintaining competitiveness in the global market.”
PSA Italy will continue working closely with its partners and stakeholders to pursue further development goals, contributing to the growth of the PSA Venice-Vecon terminal in the ports of Venice and Marghera as a strategic hub for the Adriatic Sea.
